Alma 36

(A/N: Hello everyone! Alejandra here with the weekly email from Hermana Ramos-Escobar who's out serving! It's pretty short, but I feel like it has a powerful message to it! :D Enjoy! )

This week, I was reading in Alma 36. This is when Alma is talking to his son Helaman. I loved this chapter!

Alma is telling his son everything that had happened when he saw the angel. He was telling Helaman about all the things that he had done wrong. He had rebelled against God, he didn't keep the commandments, he murdered people, he led people away into destruction, and there is so much more that he did. I can't imagine how rotten Alma probably felt at that time. Remembering all the things that he did to lead people away from God. He says that for three days and three nights he was racked with pains of a damned soul, but then he remembered that Christ was going to come and atone for everyone's sin.

And then he tells his son:

"Now, as my mind caught hold upon this thought, I cried withing my heart: O Jesus, thou Son of God, have mercy on me, who am in the gall bitterness, and am encircled about by the everlasting chains of death. And now, behold, when I thought this, I could remember my pains no more; yea, I was harrowed up by the memory of my sins no more."

Because of one prayer, of all Alma's feelings were taken away. One simple prayer.

It doesn't matter how bad we feel. It doesn't matter what we do. But if we really have that sincere desire to change. Christ will help us. He knows our heart.

I love this Church. I love the Book of Mormon and I know its true.

Love,
Hermana Ramos-Escobar
